Seventh and Deadliest Part 2 - Man in the Mirror
Description

As people we have this tendency of making comparisons.  We compare our neighbor’s lawn with our own.  We judge based on what kind of car someone drives or clothes they wear.  We quickly make up our minds about people with the Cliffs notes of their lives.  It is unfortunate but as a whole we are fairly critical people, often finding fault in others in order to somehow elevate ourselves.  We evaluate how we are doing by comparison with others.  Sometimes we skew the results by filtering the data – we either only look at people with less accomplishment, fewer good looks, less money, less power or dimmer wits to make ourselves feel better  – or we see ourselves negatively in light of everyone else’s rosy lives – the grass is always greener.  These ways of looking at ourselves are all the result of pride.

You see our perception of ourselves, our reality is based on us looking in the wrong place.

Comparison, by the way, does not have to be a bad thing.  We all have models that we look to and try and emulate.  Unfortunately most of us are looking in the wrong place.  Jesus the ultimate model to follow often is discounted because, well who can measure up right?  No it is much easier to see ourselves as better than the next guy than to compare ourselves with the greatest human that ever lived.
